Duet or Small Group.

On singing in a duet or small group...

Lesson:

Sometimes, when one sings as a duet, or in a group of three or more, there is so much emphasis placed on maintaining one's part, keeping the harmony in balance, and saying the words/phrasing correctly that we forget our main purpose for standing before God's people:  that is to MINISTER TO THEM.  We are connecting with God's people, as well as those that do not know Him yet; thus, assisting them in accepting the BIG ol' hug that God has for them through the music ministry, as well as helping them to realize that God loves them, accepts them as they are, and sees them as complete and holy in His eyes...that's why he still takes the time to communicate to them through music and the preached Word.

Key tip:

1)       If possible, print out the words to song(s) that you are going to be ministering for your upcoming ministry opportunity.  Find a scripture(s) that corresponds to the words.  How can you apply this song to your life?  This will cause a little self reflection, so that come Sunday morning, you don't have to reflect and portray your life at the expense of the congregation, but that you manifest and portray the Father's heart to those that need to know that He is real.  Make eye contact with people when you feel it is called for in a song (i.e. -- "Lift Him Up..." you're compelling folks to act.)  ***Note:  I am NOT saying that there cannot be times where you start feelin' a lil' fire shut up in yo' bones and ya gotta shout...in that case, handle yer bizness!!***

2)       And remember always:  sometimes your music is the ONLY sermon that some folks will hear out of the entire 2 - 2.5 hour service!!!  I love you guys and look forward to seeing you soon!

Reminding you as I remind myself--
